PORT TERMINALS (StoRo, RoRo, Container)
One of the most important means in order to improve efficiency and economy in port terminals is to reduce the loading and unloading times of cargo ships and trains. Genrally, this can be done in several ways:
- by choosing the most efficient transfer system (cassette-based system)
- by increasing the amount of cargo transferred at a time to/from train or vessel
- by increasing the degree of automation
- by utilizing positioning and cargo regognition technique, thus decreasing the amount of misplacements
- by ensuring the technical availability of transfer equipment
SCA Transforest loads 141 cassettes each carrying 65 tons of paper rolls into their roro vessels at a time. They have reported that the loading time was reduced from a whole day down to a few hours after adopting the cassette-translifter system.
In container terminals a major improvement in freight unit flow can be achieved by increasing the number of containers towed to/from the container field at a time. This can be done by using Logister multi-container (up to 8 TEU) cassettes. This solution does not require remarkable changes in the terminal layout or infrastructure and it also decreases the amount of traffic and total number of vehicles moving in the area.
Logister also offers pull tractors specially designed for preloading the cassettes. Logister has designed the translifter and pull tractors for continuous work and a lot of attention has been paid in ensuring the high degree of availability of the transfer equipment. The main factors include:
Cargo id regognition and positioning systems supplied by Logister can be interconnected to the existing data systems in the terminals.
- Technical solutions such as triple-bogie construction and multi-wheel steering that bring the unique manouverability and dependability in translifters.
- Sufficient power and 5th wheel load capacity in 2 and 3-axle pull tractors.
- High-quality material and component selection.
- Diagnostics and remote supervising features integrated in the control system.
MULTIMODAL TERMINAL SOLUTIONS
Logister offers complete systems for multimodal terminals. Logister's own production covers:
Logister also works in close co-operation with major RTG and crane manufacturers. This makes it easier to find the optimum combination of different transfer equipment and ensures their compatibility.
- translifetrs, pull tractors and cassettes
- railway wagon movers (up to 2500 tons train weight)
- cargo unit loading/unloading stations (railway to/from translifter)
- automation and information technique
- agv solutions for cargo unit movements
So far over 200 transfer vehicles has been delivered to 30 port terminals over the world.
